How Was Your Knee Injured?
There are three main causes that can lead to knee pain. Understanding why your knee hurts is the first step to finding successful therapy. Our highly trained staff will perform diagnostic examinations and ask you thorough questions to categorize your pain into one of the following categories.
Injuries to the knee can occur because of blunt force trauma, abnormal movement, or other conditions that put a lot of stress on the joint. Depending on what happens to your knee, you may damage the bursae (fluid-filled sacs in your knee), tendons, ligaments, cartilage, or even the bone itself.
2. Repeated Movement
There are a lot of health and lifestyle factors that can add stress to your knees over time with repetition. For example, those who are overweight or participate in strenuous physical activity are susceptible to putting stress on their knees. Your knees can also start to hurt as the result of unnatural movements, such as if you walk differently following a foot or hip injury.
Arthritis is extremely common and there are over 100 known types of this condition, with osteoarthritis being one of the most prevalent. Most people that experience arthritis in the knees experience increasing pain as they age and put more wear on their knees. The pain may be accompanied by swelling and redness in the surrounding area.
Treatments for Pain & Discomfort
Two of the most successful ways to treat knee pain include stem cell therapy and physical therapy.
Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell therapy is one of the most effective scientific advances in the medical field today. This a great way to regenerate your knee if you’re suffering from meniscus problems, ligament injuries, or general wear and tear on your knees. Stem cell injections can be performed quickly and require less recovery time than surgery, which makes them an excellent solution to a wide variety of serious knee problems.
Physical therapy is a natural and healthy way to help your knees feel better, especially after an injury. Physical therapy helps rebuild muscle around your knee, which can have massive benefits for the joint itself. When you increase your strength, stamina, and flexibility, you will be able to bend and straighten your knee the way it’s designed to be used. Our physical therapy programs
What is Osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis (ah-stee-oh-ar-THRY-tis) or OA of the knee is typically caused by low levels of hyaluronan within the knee’s synovial fluid. This cushioning agent lubricates your knee joint – allowing for easy movement and keeping joint pain at a minimal. When hyaluronan fails to produce, the knee bones eventually rub together and erode; leading to bone spurs, discomfort, and pain. It has been estimated that over 10 million Americans live with OA pain on a daily basis.

How is OA Treated?
While there are many treatments available, SUPARTZ is highly recommended.
What is SUPARTZ Therapy?
SUPARTZ therapy is a solution made of highly purified, sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronan or HA). Hyaluronan is a natural chemical found in your body and in joint tissues and synovial fluid that fills your joints. Your body’s own hyaluronan acts like a lubricant and shock absorber in synovial fluid of a healthy joint.
How Does SUPARTZ Work for Me?
Osteoarthritis negatively affects the quality of synovial fluid and therefore its ability to protect and lubricate your joint. The goal of SUPARTZ therapy is to supplement the poor quality HA in your painful knee with additional highly purified HA.
How is SUPARTZ Administered?
Your doctor will give you an injection of SUPARTZ therapy into your knee once a week for 3* or 5 injections with a simple procedure that is performed at your doctor’s office. Your doctor may recommend a local anesthetic to reduce the possible discomfort associated with the injection.
*Some patients may experience benefit with 3 injections given at weekly intervals. This has been noted in a study in which patients treated with 3 injections were followed for 90 days.
Am I a candidate for SUPARTZ?
SUPARTZ therapy could be right for you if:
- Your knee pain is due to OA
- You are not getting adequate OA knee pain relief from walking and/or physical therapy
- You are also not getting adequate OA knee pain relief from pain medications, including:
- Ibuprofen (e.g., Advil®)
- Acetaminophen (e.g.,Tylenol®)
- Naproxen sodium (e.g., Aleve®)
